Lithium-ion

Lithium ion battery technology provides many advantages such as faster charging, better power density and performance over longer duration of time. The market leading countries have build reliable and cost effective supply chains for the technology over last quarter of a century to primarily cater to the needs of electronics, power, power tool and e-mobility sectors. India’s need for the technology is for current electronics and up-coming e-mobility & power sectors. As India’s manufacturing sector is dominated by MSMEs, it is vital that commercially viable Lithium ion technologies suited for Indian environment with supporting local supply chain & machines are available to SMEs. Our goal is supply chain independent SME scale viable Lithium ion chemistries supported by local supply chain & machines. We are working with start-ups to build our lithium ion cell manufacturing eco-system.

Sodium-ion

Limited lithium resources means India have to spent significant time and energy to establish reliable global lithium supply chains for its advanced chemistry cell (ACC) manufacturing. Post lithium technologies are thus very important to India and sodium ion cells are CoE’s primary goal for countering the limited resource challenge. The decision is supported by established global supply chain of sodium in India and also it is the third largest producer of sodium globally. Sodium ion ACCs have comparable performance with Lithium ion for some parameters and have added advantages of being safe, cost effective and they can be produced on Lithium-ion manufacturing lines. CoE’s ACC manufacturing lines will be compatible for production of both Sodium and Lithium ion batteries and give SME’s independency from supply chain challenges.

Lithium-polymer

Polymer batteries provide extension of application range with similar performance as liquid electrolyte ACCs but with added advantages of being safe, flexible and lighter than liquid electrolyte ACCs. CoE intends to introduce polymer cell manufacturing technologies for SMEs supported by local supply chain & machines. The technology is expected to be additional driver for ACC SME manufacturing ecosystem in India.
